We started the week with a doctor appointment for Logan that was made 8 months ago! We have a few concerns about how her body is growing. She did great with the doctor and was all smiles and giggles and SUPER cooperative!
She also had to get a x-ray and lab work (aka blood draw). We went downstairs for the x-ray and went back upstairs to have the lab work done, as instructed. Well, once we got there they said the woman doing labs was gone for another 30 minutes, and there was someone in front of us when she got back. By this point, it was 9:30am and Logan had been sitting in a waiting rom or exam room for nearly 2 hours. Waiting 30 additional minutes, then even longer for our ‘turn’ was not sitting well with me. I am not sure why they did not tell me before we went downstairs, but apparently the woman doing the labs ‘disappeared’. Seriously, that is what the receptionist told me. So there was no guarantee she would be back at 10. They told me we could go to the lab across the street and they would see is right away.
So, we get to the lab across the street and it’s kind of icky. It’s the best way I can describe it…we got there about 10 minutes before they start the drug screenings for the day, so it was just a LOT different than the pediatrician waiting room. They got us back rather quickly, and after I paid the $772 for the tests, had Logan sit in my lap in the big chair. They never told me to hold a certain arm or leg or anything. She did great when they put the rubber band around her arm and when they wiped it with the alcohol…but when that needle went in her arm ALL HELL BROKE LOSE! There were two lab techs and myself struggling to hold down a 3 1/2 year old. Do you know how strong a 3 1/2 year old is with a needle in their arm? STRONG! She almost broke the needle off in her arm, I was sweating and crying, Logan was screaming, the techs were sweating and it was a bunch of yelling ‘HOLD HER ARM! HOLD HER LEG!’ and after 1 1/2 tubes were collected they stopped. They needed 3 tubes but the tech said she will make the 1 1/2 work. I do feel it would have gone better if they would have told me what to do BEFORE they stuck the needle in, it also did not help when they told me I needed to be more calm. Ummm, that’s my kid, folks, and she was hurting and begging for them to stop. THEN, they told Logan after they were done that it does not hurt. Here is the deal, I’ve been reading ‘How to Talk so Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk’ and the first chapter is ALL about NOT discounting kids feelings. If she said it hurt, IT HURT. Needless to say if lab work ever needs to be done the Hubs will take her and it will be scheduled and done in the pediatricians office with techs experienced with working with kids. All lab work came back normal. Yay and phew because if they needed more blood Logan was going to need a sedative.
Saturday morning we went to Sesame Street Live! Logan was so excited and remembered when we went last year, Morgan was a little uncomfortable with the big crowd as we were walking in. She wanted Daddy to carry her and Logan was very pleased to be in the LILLEbaby on my back. This arrangement made the lengthy walk and long line to get in manageable and pleasant.
The performance was great! This year the focus was on music which meant lots of songs, dancing and even a neat black light dance.
Morgan loved seeing the characters and kept yelling their names!
We went to Knox’s birthday party Saturday afternoon, Granny’s house Sunday morning and Grandmagrandpa’s house Sunday afternoon. It was a fun filled busy weekend!
My heart is breaking for Logan! Poor Emily! I hope you are both ok and recovering.
